Loosely Coupled Business Systems: Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) on the Microsoft Platform
This first master class will be all about Microsoft and Service Oriented Architecture. You will learn, how Microsoft thinks about service orientation, what components should be used to build and expose services on the Microsoft stack and also how Microsoft’s products can be used to harvest services from non Microsoft platforms such as IBM mainframe and mid-size systems.
The session will also help you understand and select the appropriate Microsoft technologies to build and expose services and implement both a service oriented and a Business Process Management infrastructure for an organisation.
This master class will cover the following topics:
· Layers of Service Oriented Architecture
· Standardise on Service Oriented Communication
· Service Oriented Infrastructure
· Business Process Management
· Futures

•2ª Masterclass - 08.Abr.09
Designing N-Tier & N-Layer applications with the latest Microsoft technologies
This master class will be all about how to design N-Tier & N-Layer apps with new Microsoft technologies. You will learn how to implement DAL layers, BLL layers and presentation layers and which technologies you should use for each layer. We also review what modern patters we can implement in those layers. Finally we’ll see when we have to split the architecture in separate physical Tiers and how to do it.
This master class will cover the following concepts, technologies and products:
- Entity Framework (.NET 3.5 SP1) in DAL layer and N-Tiers apps
- Transactions in Business Layer
- MVC & MVP patterns for UI presentation layers
- UI technologies and when to use them: WPF, Silverlight, OBA, ASP.NET, etc.

•3ª Masterclass - 21.Abr.09
The Microsoft Data Platform: Master Data Management and Business Intelligence
Microsoft’s SQL Server 2008 offers a versatile and powerful data platform that goes way beyond of just being a relational database server. SQL Server 2008 as a platform covers important aspects for a professional enterprise data management including classic online transactional processing (OLTP), online analytical processing (OLAP) up to integration technologies such as native web services support, reporting support via Reporting Services or a powerful ETL environment via SQL Server Integration Services. This master class will deal with questions such as which technology to use when in the data-platform, how the data platform is different to other, similar technologies and how you can use the platform for building powerful entity- and data-services in your IT services environment.
In this master class we will discuss the following technologies:
- SQL Server 2008 architecture and changes overview
- Concepts of master data management and SQL Server 2008
- Business Intelligence and reporting with SQL Server 2008
- Availability, reliability and scalability of SQL Server 2008
- Relationship and classification compared to other, similar Microsoft technologies (e.g. Biztalk Server and Integration Services)

•4ª Masterclass - 11.Mai.09
Identity & Access Management: Concepts for designing security-systems and secure systems on the Microsoft Platform
The fourth master class is all about “security”. First you will learn about concepts we apply within Microsoft to be able to make applications themselves more secure and second you will learn about ways for designing security systems in federated enterprise environments. You will learn about technologies, products and concepts at an architectural level that will allow you to achieve both goals. You will learn about Microsoft platform components and their relationship to each other as well and usage scenarios for dealing with specific “security-requirements” – from Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS) up to ILM or even Windows CardSpace and the Identity Meta System vision.
This master class will deal with the following concepts and topics:
- Secure software architecture – Threat Models and Mitigation techniques
- Architectural concepts for dealing with “digital identities” in the enterprise and assigning permissions to them.
- Concepts for designing and implementing security-systems across application- and company-domains.
- Overview of Microsoft security technologies and products as well as their architecture and usage scenarios.

The modern "Information Worker": The 2007 Microsoft Office system as central component of your applications
Finally the last master class will deal with the world of the end users. Here the 2007 Microsoft office system plays an important role with its client and server-components such as SharePoint. Especially the latest version of SharePoint provides us a powerful framework for creating and developing user-driven portal solutions and composite applications for the intranet, extranet and of course the internet. Technologies such as content and records management, the integration and design of BI-dashboards on top of SQL Server Analysis and Reporting Services, forms- and workflow-based services with InfoPath forms services and Windows Workflow Foundation integration or complex calculation engines such as Excel Services are part of the Office server platform. Combining these allow you building powerful composite enterprise mash-ups based on the Office platform.
This final master class will deal with the following topics in detail:
- Overall architecture of the 2007 Microsoft Office system
- Design of modular portals with SharePoint and Web Parts
- Content and document management with SharePoint 2007
- Forms-based solutions with InfoPath forms services
- Workflow solutions with SharePoint 2007 and Workflow Foundation
- Integration of SharePoint and Office Clients with other platforms
- Visual Studio Tools for Office as development environment
